Sigma Phi Theta is a gentleman's organization possessing a vast body of loyal members and alumni. Our organization, founded on high ideals and unselfish endeavor, is destined to serve its members by working to enhance and enrich their lives through genuine fraternalism.  

 

In the fall of 1946, seven Doane men, all WWII veterans, walked into the second floor Merrill Hall office of William Stewart Nelson and asked for assistance in establishing a third fraternity on Doane College’s campus.  The seven original men found 25 additional men who wished to create a fraternity based on friendship and service and on February 17, 1947 Sigma Phi Theta took it’s place among the traditions of Doane.
